Installing NovaOTT with IBO Player

IBO Player is the only client NovaOTT supports, on every platform. That is a deliberate choice: one app means our technicians know every menu of it, and you get an answer in minutes instead of a forum link.

Home/Setup Guide

Budget fifteen minutes. The unusual part of IBO Player is that you do not type your subscription details into the television — you register the device once on the IBO portal, save the playlist there, and their cloud pushes it to your screen. Follow the eight steps below in order.

Before you begin

IBO Player itself carries a small one-off licence fee charged by its developers (roughly €5 for a year or €10 for lifetime), paid directly to them, not to NovaOTT. Every device gets a short evaluation window on first install before that licence is required.

The eight steps

  1. Get IBO Player onto your device

Android phones, tablets and boxes install the APK directly from the IBO Player website — accept the "install from unknown source" prompt, open the file, tap Install. Windows 10 or newer (64-bit) uses the desktop installer; when SmartScreen objects, choose More Info then Run Anyway. macOS users drag the app into Applications, then approve it once under System Settings › Privacy & Security › Open Anyway.

  2. Fire TV Stick: install Downloader first

Amazon does not carry IBO Player in its store, so side-load it. Search the Fire TV home screen for Downloader and install it, grant media access when prompted, then enter code 511693 in Downloader's address field and press Go. If the install is blocked, open Settings › Install Unknown Apps and switch Downloader to ON. Hidden Developer Options? Highlight About and press OK seven times.

  3. Samsung and LG smart TVs: use the built-in store

This is where IBO Player earns its place. Open the LG Content Store or Samsung Apps, search for "IBO Player", and install the exact match — ignore the similarly named clones. Press Launch, dismiss the welcome message, and the app is ready for a playlist.

  4. Find your MAC address and device key

Open IBO Player on the television or box and select the person icon on the main dashboard. The Device Info panel at the top left shows a MAC address and a device key. Write both down — they are the credentials for the activation portal, not your NovaOTT login.

  5. Log in to the playlist portal

On a phone or computer, open the IBO Player website and choose Manage Playlist from the top menu. Enter the MAC address and device key from the previous step and sign in. You are now looking at the remote activation panel — anything saved here is pushed to your television automatically.

  6. Add your NovaOTT playlist

Choose Add XC Playlist and enter the host, username and password NovaOTT emailed you. If we sent you a single long streaming line instead, use Add Playlist and paste it into the Playlist URL field. Leave the XMLTV EPG field empty — NovaOTT ships a populated guide inside the playlist itself. Give the list a name and press Save.

  7. Reopen the app and fix the Live TV layout

Close IBO Player completely and reopen it; the channels appear within seconds. By default the Live TV screen uses a layout that crowds channel names under the preview window. On the dashboard, click the screen icon beside the Wi-Fi symbol, switch Live Screen Style from Malai to Thai, and save. Channel names, preview and EPG all get proper room. Press the left arrow on your remote to bring categories back.

  8. Tune the settings that actually matter

Inside Settings, use Manage Categories to hide regions you will never watch — a shorter list loads faster and is far easier to navigate. Set Content Strategy to load each section on demand rather than everything at launch. If the EPG ever looks scrambled or artwork fails, Clear Cache resolves it in one step. Parental Control uses 0000 as the initial PIN.

Getting around the app

Live TV

The channel list, a preview window and the programme guide share one screen. Long-press any channel and confirm Add to drop it into Favourites — a heart appears beside the name and the list moves to the top of the category column. The search function sits in the bottom-left corner and looks across every category at once, but it matches on specific terms, so type the channel name carefully.

Movies and series

The on-demand section defaults to newest additions. Three controls sit in the top-right corner: a palette icon switching between Modern and Normal themes, a downward arrow sorting by date, rating or alphabet, and a magnifier for search. Press and hold OK on any title to add it to Favourites.

The dashboard buttons

Player engines

Settings lets you choose the decoder for Live TV and for on-demand independently: Android Player, EXO Player or VLC. EXO and VLC ship their codec libraries inside the app. If one channel behaves oddly while everything else is fine, switching engines is the fastest diagnostic.

If something goes wrong

Still stuck? Our technicians answer in English and French between 9 AM and 11 PM Atlantic, seven days a week, and can walk you through the portal screen by screen.

Warning

Two things worth knowing. NovaOTT is a family-oriented service — we carry no adult or explicit categories at any tier. And if your internet provider throttles or filters streaming traffic, a standard VPN resolves it; this sits outside our infrastructure, so we recommend testing your connection on the CA$10.99 intro month first.
